Your Area
Your Area shows what is happening around one place you choose.
Setting a place
Type a place name, address, postcode, or coordinates as lat, lon. The search runs in your browser against OpenStreetMap's Nominatim. Then pick a radius from 10 km to 2000 km. The default is 25 km.
What it shows
- The forecast for the next 24 hours from MET Norway: now, the day's range, rain, and every third hour on your own clock.
- Nearby cameras, where EHW has any.
- Events in range: a total, how many are act-worthy (see Reading an alert), a breakdown by category, and the five most severe groups.
Your location
When the map loads, your browser may ask for your location. EHW asks for a low-accuracy fix and uses it for two things only: to centre the map when you have not set a place, and as the point for a "near me" alert. It is not stored.
What is stored
- Your place and radius are kept in your browser's local storage, so they survive a reload. They are never tied to an account.
- To find nearby events, the coordinates are sent to the server with the request. The server's logs strip query strings, so they are not recorded.
- The forecast request is rounded to two decimal places, about 1 km, before it leaves EHW for MET Norway.
