Freshness and status
A feed that stops answering looks exactly like a quiet day, unless something is watching. EHW watches every source and says when one has gone quiet.
Fresh, stale, down
Each source has a maximum age, set from how often it normally publishes.
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Fresh | The last successful fetch is within the maximum age. |
| Stale | It is older than that, but within twice the maximum age, or the source has not run yet. |
| Down | It is older than twice the maximum age, or every attempt has failed. |
The status page shows every source in one of these states, with a summary across all of them. The weather warning agencies are also counted separately, because they are what most readers come for.
Reference datasets
Some data is not fetched live. It is bundled into EHW when it is built:
| Dataset | Covers | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Energy profiles | 79 countries | Our World in Data |
| Main cities | 234 countries | GeoNames |
| Fault systems | 54 systems | GEM Global Active Faults |
| Supervolcanoes | 19 systems | EHW catalogue |
A bundled dataset cannot go down, but it can go out of date without anyone noticing. Each one records when it was built, and is reported as stale once it passes its refresh window.
Reading it yourself
The same data is available as JSON at /api/v1/freshness. See REST API.
