Countries

79 countries, energy mix as of 2024.

A country has a page here when we hold something durable about it. What we hold is where its energy comes from, which is a fact with a year on it rather than a number that moves overnight. Each page carries that first, and then what our threat map currently reads for the country, which is the part that does move.

The rest of the world is on the live monitor. It is not here because a page that said only "today's reading is 31" would be the same page 116 times.

Where the data comes from

Energy mix: Our World in Data, energy dataset (https://github.com/owid/energy-data), compiled by Pablo Rosado, Hannah Ritchie, Edouard Mathieu and Max Roser from the Energy Institute Statistical Review of World Energy, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, Ember and The Shift Dataportal. Licence: Our World in Data's own compilation is CC BY 4.0. The underlying figures stay under their original terms: Energy Institute Statistical Review of World Energy, U.S. EIA, Ember and The Shift Dataportal. The percentages here are ours, computed from those figures; the wording is ours too. Threat readings: computed by Rift from the event feeds listed on the sources page.
